The VCU Office of Information Security can conduct vulnerability scans for your server or application. There are several benefits in doing vulnerability scans for your servers or applications regularly:
- Identify vulnerabilities in a system or application before the attackers exploit them
- Keep your system secure and instill trust in the users of the system or application
- Allow a better understanding of your IT system
To request a vulnerability scan for your web application or server, please submit an electronic request via Service Desk or contact VCU Office of Information Security at infosec@vcu.edu
The risk assessment provides a comprehensive evaluation of a single IT system, or the IT infrastructure in the division, department, or school. This comprehensive assessment includes a business impact analysis, security assessment of the technology, physical environment, and administrative processes within the management of the IT system(s). The benefits of a risk assessment include:
- Provides a better understanding of the IT system and the controls around the system.
- Allows evidence-based identification and management of risks.
- Keeping your environment secure and instill trust within your constituents.
- Ensures compliance and a better audit outcome.

The Office of Information Security can help to educate Faculty, Staff, and Students of VCU on various topics related to Information Security. We have provided both internal and external training material below, and we can always schedule onsite training for your department or school.
Training Material
VCU Cybersecurity Fair- The VCU Cybersecurity Fair is an annual event that intends to educate employees and students on various areas of information security. The fair is held in October of each year, which coincides with the Nation Cybersecurity Awareness month, and offers educational sessions, vendors, food, and prizes.
31 Security Tips- These tips are in conjunction with VCU School of Nursing. They help you avoid modern-day internet and cybersecurity threats.
VCU Information Security Brochure- This brochure offers a quick and easy to read eight tips for securing your data online and offline. It can be printed and provided to employees or students.
